Cable ties may also be referred to as tie wrap or zip tie. They are fasteners that may be used for binding wires or cables together. They help to organize the cables that would otherwise have looked messy

Most of these cables are made of nylon. The nylon cable will include a tape and triangular teeth sloping in the same direction. The top of this kind of cable has a pawl that is flexible and rides upwards in that slope on inserting the tape. The backside of the teeth is engaged by the pawl making it impossible to remove the tape.

These ones are specially made for outdoor applications when they are likely to be exposed to the direct sunlight. Carbon polymer is used to make them but in low quantities. This goes a long way in protecting polymer chains and also makes the ties more durable hence cost effective.

Cable ties are also required in industries such as food supply. Some of these will have additives of metal to make them highly detectable by use of metal detectors. There are also special types of tie tools for areas that are high in radiation. Some like red ties are extensively used in plenum cabling.

Cables made of stainless steel are also available in the market. These are specially designed for applications that are flame proof. To reduce chances of galvanic attacks or eliminate them entirely, the stainless ties are further coated.

Cable ties can also be used as handcuffs. They are therefore used by the military and police for prisoner restraint. They are also used for the prevention of hubcaps. These prevent wheel trims from falling off. They are therefore very important.
